Family ‘overwhelmed’ by contributions for son’s funeral costs

Ed Paquette said he’s been “overwhelmed” by the community support that has helped raise funds to cover the costs of funeral expenses for his son. “We’re just a few hundred dollars away from the total amount, it’s been incredible,” said Paquette, an Almonte father whose 12-year-old son Joey died earlier this month of arrhythmia as a result of an undetected enlarged heart. The family struggled to pay for the funeral expenses which totalled more than $8,000 and also dealt with the news that Joey’s mother, Laurie had breast cancer.
