Ottawa library puts surplus on the books

The Ottawa Public Library had a surplus of $74,000 last year, even though less money was collected from fines. The library had expected to receive about $1.3 million in fine revenue but collected less than $1.2 million, largely because people have signed up for email reminders that books are coming due and branches were closed for renovations, says a report to the library board.
