City committee calls on Parks Canada to drop Rideau Canal boating fee hikes

OTTAWA — The city appears poised to join other municipalities along the Rideau Canal in calling on Parks Canada to drop controversial fee increases proposed for boaters. Council’s agriculture and rural affairs committee approved a motion on Thursday that asks the federal government and Parks Canada “to immediately rescind the proposed Rideau Canal fees until a more acceptable proposal is presented.” It also calls for a meeting with Environment Minister Peter Kent to be arranged.
