Commercial boom pushes up Ottawa building permit values

The value of building permits sought by Ottawa construction firms jumped in 2012 as commercial development outpaced a sluggish market for new home construction. According to statistics released Thursday by Statistics Canada, the value of building permits issued to Ottawa builders hit $2.08 billion in 2012, a 13-per-cent increase over the $1.84 billion reported in 2011.
