How many person in his/her family?
Does he/she love sports(boat, canoe, bike, camping,etc.)
if only one person, no special needs, only for work and shopping Chevolet Cavalier(2.2L/4Door) is the best choice. For most people they don't need Z24, a compact car 2.2L is more than enough(most compact Jap car only 1.6~2.0L, they are still running, even Acura 1.6/1.7L engine is a basic component), and 2.2L is very good on gas. before 2000, a 2.4L engine can drive a mid size sedan such as 4 cyl. Malibu(exactly the same engine as cavalier Z24.)
Z24 is for sport person, that means, more gas, higher insurance.
For Three or more persons, more highway driving, no special sport requirement, Malibu/Buick/Escort/Taurus are all good.
For simple sports, want to carry a canoe or 2/3 bikes, or lots camping staff, Taurus Wagen (7 seats) is perfect.
Other wise he need a SUV or a VAN.
A 2~3 years old car is almost a new one, after 磕磕碰碰, you still need to repair, same price as to fix a new car, so a brand new is better than a used one. You can pay in 4 years or pay cash at a lower price(Cavalier cash price is at least 2200~2500 lower than financing). For these cars, now are all 0 finiancing rate, why not a new one?
If you want to buy new GM/Ford cars, you'd better go out of the town, 20~50Km out the the town, you can get a deal at 1000~2500 less. For a new car you bought not only a car, also 3~5 years warranty, 1 or more years 24x7 roadside assistent and more. Don't forget warranty is money.
The most important thing is don't buy cars on Carling Ave., used/new, the price is the highest in the town, Bank st. is a little bit expensive too. I learned this lesson after I bought my first car in the town, a dealer out of the town told me he can sell the same car at 1500 less....
