My hot water tank is about 10 years old. It worked perfectly until January when it quit. It worked again as the pilot fire was rekindled. The fire stayed on for about a month. Yesterday the tank quit again. I had a look at the bottom and found there was no flame in the chamber. The pilot fire was reignited, and the tank worked again. As I am posting this, the pilot fire is still burning, which means the tank is working just fine.
Do you think there is a problem with the hot water tank? Does the tank need to be replaced?
The thermocouple seems to be okay as the pilot fire will not go out after being lit. The problem is it will go out in a month or two. The fire seems to be blown out, but this had never happened until a few months ago. Your opinion will be very much appreciated.
