Woman and dog escape Vars house fire

OTTAWA — A woman and her dog escaped a fire Tuesday morning when an alarm warned her of heavy black smoke in the two-storey home. After getting the woman’s 911 call just past 10 a.m., fire crews arrived on the scene at Buckland Rd. in Vars to discover heavy flames in the kitchen and living room. The fire was restricted to those rooms but there was excessive smoke damage throughout the home. Firefighters had the fire under control by 10:49 a.m.
