today's Globe and Mail had a piece on
Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss double down on disbelief
I always had been a fun of Richard and Lawrence. I was curious on what comments Canadian public will make, I fully expected a lot of religion fanatic will post negative comments. but to my surprise here are the top 10 most rated comments.
1)
I congratulate Dawkins for being a trail blazer in trying to move mankind past the hocus pocus superstition of religion. Without people like him pulling back the curtain on the Pope and the Imams we would never know what frauds they are.
Religion has been mankind's parasitic tick since it's inception. We would be so much better off without it.
2)
Our family had friends who spent years in Africa on both medical and hygiene and birth control programs due to the fact that many African women have 6 to 10 kids and several sometimes up to 4 or 5 die as a result of poor nutrition and disease including HIV.
Imagine their horror when the volunteers were told to cease family planning instruction to African Women as the funding came from the Catholic Charities and Catholic Charities FORBID family planning and birth control, Since HIV is endemic in Africa they had taught African Women all about condoms and fortunately many of the condom makers donated thousands of condoms to them. Unfortunately due to RELIGIOUS CATHOLIC DOGMA FUNDS WERE FROZEN....all decided by the Pope in Rome.
They were disgusted and all 11 (eleven) returned to Canada and USA as they could not risk the penalties of being stranded in Africa. HERE IS A PRIME EXAMPLE THAT MAKES NO SENSE TO ANYBODY. PEOPLE and KIDS WILL NOW DIE DUE TO RELIGION. SHAMEFUL RELIGION.
3) Why if we consider our culture to have evolved, is it still a protected state of affairs that the minds of defenseless children continue to be indoctrinated and initiated into irrational Iron Age beliefs? What if the federal government took an even greater paternal role in our lives and mandated that we all worship the Great Bear Spirit or that everyone must attend a Christian ritual on Sundays, what would the population say about that? Now yes of course the second item of forcing church attendance was historically forced on the population but do we want to regress? Take that thought for a bit of a longer walk and then answer why if adults can't be forced is it okay to make children into little, frightened automatons when it comes to religious beliefs? Tribalism doesn't lead to establishing healthy communities.
4) The belief in a deity and organized religion are two different things.
Organized religions are the biggest scam foisted on humanity; invented to control the masses and provide a living for their clergies.
5) "When I was a kid in the '60s, I was sure that by now there would be no religion"

6) I was raised in a christian religion. All I knew were people who did nothing but mean spirited gossiping and back stabbing. This in combination with the scary propaganda images they were constantly throwing in our faces made me extremely fearful of everyone and everything. I spent my entire childhood in a state of complete terror which resulted in the same symptoms as extreme PTSD. This can have seriously negative effects especially on ones development at such a young age. My entire life has been a mess as a direct result of religion. I have not stepped foot inside a church or religious gathering since I left home at age 15. Now at the age of 40 I am only just finally past this enough to actually live MY life!
I am so grateful we have people like Dawkins and Krauss in our world and speaking out as they are.

"Aren't there important things that we can all draw from religion, like a sense of community or consolation in difficult times?"
We keep hearing the religious talk about how religion brings "morals" or "community" to humanity. Really have you guys read the headlines lately? Churches wanting to exclude gay people. Muslims bombing and killing. The pope telling people not to wear condoms. The ethnic cleansing in areas of opposing religions. There are easily 10 headlines a day where atrocities are committed in the name of religion.
I think we can do a much better job of "community" without religion rearing it's ugly head and spoiling everything.
9)Even if I wanted to be religious or worship some god, which 1 of the 1000's should I select? Choosing a religion is as arbitrary as throwing a dart at a board. Seems silly to me.

Why are we still talking about superstition as being worthy of consideration? All religions are human inventions and should be treated as such.
11) Absolutely....religion in itself is the root of all evil....which is a paradox but the truth. Most wars, many crimes and a lot of attitudes are created and nurtured by various religions fighting amongst themselves. There have been thousands of gods during recorded history and fools are still arguing over who's god is best and real. Dump it all, and donate all the money to genuine world wide causes like hunger and health.
