Ottawa’s top 10 priciest homes are all in the leafy inner-city neighbourhood of Rockcliffe Park, according to latest assessments on which property taxes are based.
Priciest of all remains the home of Marlen and Michael Cowpland, who made it big in the technology boom and seemed to have oodles of fun enjoying their good fortune.
The Cowplands’ modern mansion on a dead-end street was estimated to be worth $14.263 million in the assessments of what residential properties were selling for at the beginning of 2012. That was an increase of 13.8 per cent on the home’s estimated worth four years earlier.
Like many whose homes have increased in value, the Cowplands are getting a break on their property taxes this year and for the next two years, since the new assessments won’t be fully applied until 2016.
Here’s a look at the top 10:
234 Perley Ct.
This over-the-top home symbolizes the flamboyant lifestyle of the Cowplands. The exterior is mostly glass and metal and the home has more than 10,000 square feet of living space. The Cowplands’ property tax bill this year is about $150,000. The bill will be even higher when the new assessments are fully applied in 2016.
