Ottawa police Chief Charles Bordeleau thinks it’s high time that police officers charged with criminal offences while they were off duty stop receiving pay cheques while suspended. Bordeleau Wednesday voiced concerns that the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police has had for some time: That the nature of serious criminal charges and their effect on police reputation and the ever-increasing cost of police salaries mean forces should have the discretion to suspend without pay any officers who have been criminally charged.
