OK. I will try to answer your question.
Generally speaking, you have to find a buyer who is willing to pay the price you ask for your car first in order to sell your car. The problem is how to find him/her.
You can try to put your ads in the web (like this one), newsgroups (local newsgroup), newspaper (Ottawa Sun or Ottawa Citizen), flyer(PennySaver or others), Magzines (Autotrader), etc. You might have to pay money for your ads.
You don't have to pay fees selling your vehicle. The buyer has to pay some fees while he/she is trying to register this vehicle under his/her name, including 8% tax, plate, etc. If the buyer elect to buy a vehicle from a dealer or trader, he/she has to be more fees, such as 15% tax, administration fee, etc.
You have to supply ownship card and UVIP to the buyer. You can get UVIP at any Kiosk, MTO office at the price of $20, or even on line.
Once an agreement is reached regarding to the price of the vehicle, the buyer will go to the MTO office to transfer the ownership of the vehicle with insurance policy number, UVIP(has to be finished and signed by you), ownership of this car (from you), certificate of Emission Test, certificate of Safety Test.
Another issue is who will pay for the cost of Emission Test and Safety test. Actually, the seller doesn't have to pay for those. Those two tests themselves cost less than $100. It happens quite often that the used car failed to pass those tests. You might have to pay over $1000 in order to pass those 2 tests, even thousands. Generally speaking, the buyer will not buy a vehicle before this vehicle pass those tests unless the price is very, very attractive! Too risky.
Hope this helps.
