Pet Care: Fear of storms in dogs is common and probably genetic

Question: My dog, Buddy, is a six-year-old Lhasa Apso mix that gets very stressed with thunderstorms. In the beginning of a thunderstorm he will shake, pant, pace and generally be on edge. He will then look for a hiding spot or look to us for comfort. During the last big storm, my husband went to comfort him and Buddy snapped at him, which he has never done before. What can we do to help him to reduce his stress during these thunderstorms?
