In order to become an Actuary, you need 8 actuarial tests + one seminar. Usually, it takes you 4 years to complete or never will. You don't have to major in Actuarul Science to get those tests done. The courses offer in Actuarial Science at school are designed to help you pass first 4 exams. And the rest requires industrial experiences to complete(usually in the forms of essays). You don't need to complete all those exams in order to wrok. But you need at least finish the third exam for qualifying a actuarial related job. Jobs you can do once you become an Actuary, basically everything that involve numbers. Ususally, insurance industry(most likely all of them) government jobs, bank, financial institute. BTW, the president of Actuarial Society in US and Canada is the chairman at U of Waterloo. His name is Harry Panger. Everyone will know him because all actsi students have to study Panger Formula.
