Fred Funk
One of the shortest hitters on tour, Funk was playing in the MerrilLynch shootout, a pairs event featuring PGA Tour and LPGA Tour players. He told Annika Sorenstam that if she out drove him he would wear a skirt. She did outhit him, more than once. The next day, by the time the players had reached the third tee, Funk had performed a quick-change act and strode onto the tee wearing a pink flowered dress (which we hope belonged to his wife).
Funk was bent over in the skirt trying to read a birdie putt. Tiger Woods, who was playing in the same group, was asked to help him read his putt. Woods leaned over and said, with a straight face: “I think it’s two balls out.” Indeed!
