Ottawa cop in violent arrest video a ‘rising star’

OTTAWA — His face black and blue, Const. Craig Fairbairn reported for his next shift just the same, saying the bruises and cuts from another night on patrol in the ByWard Market were no worse than a rough hockey game. Hired on April 13, 2009, Fairbairn is the Ottawa police officer featured in an online video of a violent arrest outside Tequila Jacks on Clarence Street Friday night. The one-minute clip does not show a second man whom police say sucker punched Fairbairn in the face seconds before the recording.
