About 60 per cent of homeowners in Ottawa carry a mortgage, according to the 2011 National Household Survey released on Wednesday by Statistics Canada. About 15 per cent of home-owner households spent one-third or more of their total household income on shelter costs. These include mortgage payments, property taxes, condo fees and utilities.
