You don't have to delay your admission to school. You are eligible for EI if you register as a part-time student. This part-time means less than 10 hours of course a week in School. So even you are a full-time student according to the university's standard (for graduate student, normally that means you take at least 3 courses and 9 hours a week), but this is still a part-time according to HRDC's standard. This was my experience in 2001, I was in the same situation as you. So you can study "full time" and still get your EI. But make sure to ask HRDC if there is anything changed in current policy.
