Council agrees to lease Ottawa stadium to Can-Am League

OTTAWA — Despite misgivings over the viability of a low-level independent baseball team in Ottawa, city council voted Wednesday to lease the Ottawa Stadium on Coventry Road to the Can-Am League for at least 10 years. That means Ottawa’s team, the sixth in the league, is slated to take the field for 50 home games starting in 2015. It’s a far cry from the dreams the city had of attracting a Double-A team, which would have been affiliated with a major league team two professional baseball levels above it.
