Dr. Jeff Turnbull sits at the bedside of a patient and holds her shaking hand. She is has liver cancer, lung cancer and throat cancer. She suffers from mental illness, is anxious and can’t think clearly. She wants to die. When she learns she will likely live for a few more months, she moans. “We are not going to prolong your life unnecessarily, but we are going to make it the best quality we can,” he tells her softly, still holding her hand.
