A spoonful of sugar really does make the medicine go down — even when that medicine is delivered at the end of a sharp needle. Researchers at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario say extensive research of children less than a year old shows that sugar water, breastfeeding — depending on the baby’s age — and parental holding can have a significant pain reducing effect.
