Ottawa - Waste Reduction Week, October 21 to 27, challenges Ottawa residents to think about what they throw away and to learn about the many services the City offers to protect our environment by increasing waste diversion:

  • Green bin
  • Blue box
  • Black box
  • Take it back
  • Give Away Weekend
  • Household Hazardous Waste Depots

The week will be highlighted by two waste diversion events: a Household Hazardous Waste Depot on Sunday, October 27, and the always popular Give Away Weekend, on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27.

Give Away Weekend

One person’s trash is another’s treasure! Set your gently used items out at the curb on October 26 and 27 for the Fall Ottawa Give Away Weekend. Tour your neighbourhood and city to find hidden treasures.

Rules for setting out items

  • Place items like clothes, furniture, sports equipment, books and more at the curb
  • Place stickers or signs on items with the word "FREE"
  • Health Canada advises that used children's items should not be placed at the curb for Give Away Weekend.

At the end of the day, remove uncollected items that can be donated to a local charity.

Household Hazardous Waste Depot

Items such as paints, stains, pool chemicals and fluorescent tubes don’t belong in a landfill. Drop them off for free at the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Depot.

Date: Sunday, October 27, 2013

Time: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: 150 Tunney's Pasture Drive

Tunney's Pasture Parking Lot at Goldenrod Drive and Sorrel Drive

Residential electronic waste such as computers, TVs and cameras are also accepted at this site.
