Ottawa – Last night at a special ceremony, 25 volunteers graduated from the Ottawa Public Health (OPH) Community Food Advisor (CFA) training program. This 12-week training curriculum about healthy eating and food safety, equips these passionate volunteers with the know-how to teach important food skills to residents of all ages.
“Getting back to the kitchen is an important part of healthy eating and Community Food Advisors, with their teaching of basic food skills, play an important role in educating residents in the simple art of everyday cooking using fresh, healthy and readily available ingredients,” said Dr. Isra Levy, Ottawa’s Medical Officer of Health. “The commitment and dedication of these trained volunteers to help Ottawa residents feel better and be healthier through healthy eating is admirable and I congratulate our newest graduates.”
This graduation marks an important milestone in the history of this popular program bringing the total of CFAs available to serve the public to 49, a doubling over last year. CFAs offer presentations and food demonstrations to a variety of groups in diverse settings including seniors’ groups, food banks, community houses, schools and daycares, community fairs, good food markets and other special events.
