Ottawa –Starting Monday, October 28 traffic on Queen Street between Bay and Lyon will be restricted to local access only. Bay Street at Queen Street will be reduced to one lane.
This restricted access and lane reduction is expected to last until Thursday, October 31.
Parking garage access will be maintained and pedestrian facilities will remain open throughout. Once the reconnection is made, asphalt will be reinstated and this portion of the watermain project will be complete.
This work is being done to facilitate the reconnection of the new watermain on Queen Street to the existing watermain on Bay Street, which will ensure the continued reliability and quality of the downtown water supply. The existing water main was installed in 1874, making it one of the oldest in the City.
The Queen Street Water Main Rehabilitation Project is an Ottawa on the Move project. Ottawa on the Move is about keeping our community and economy moving forward through strategic investments in a number of transportation, water, and sewer projects to build a better city and create jobs.
With all of the construction-related activities underway, residents are encouraged to be flexible with commuting times, stagger work hours or use other alternative means for travel. The public is asked to consider options such as transit, walking, cycling or carpooling.
Further project details and other information concerning ongoing City roadwork are available on ottawa.ca.
