Ottawa – Starting Monday, November 4, Queen Street will be limited to local traffic only between Elgin Street and Metcalfe Street. Parking garage access will be maintained and pedestrian pathways will remain open.

This temporary closure is necessary to reconnect adjacent buildings to the permanent water supply system prior to winter. The closure is expected to last one week.

The Queen Street Water Main Replacement Project is an $11.5 million project that will ensure the continued reliability and quality of the downtown water supply. The existing water main was installed in 1874, making it one of the oldest in the City. In addition to replacing this critical piece of infrastructure, this project also includes the separation of the existing combined sewer system into independent storm and sanitary sewers as outlined in the Ottawa River Action Plan, our city’s commitment to protect the health of the Ottawa River and provide cleaner water, safer beaches and a better environment.

The Queen Street Water Main Replacement Project is an Ottawa on the Move project. Ottawa on the Move is about keeping our community and economy moving forward through strategic investments in a number of transportation, water, and sewer projects to build a better city and create jobs.
