Upcoming ramp closures and lane reductions on Highways 417 and 174

Ottawa –Starting Sunday, November 3 there will be additional off peak lane closures on Highway 417 in both directions between Parkdale Avenue and Walkley Road and on Highway 174 between Montreal Road and the Hwy 417/174 split.

Sunday, Nov 3 to Friday, Nov 8 (Beginning Sunday night)

  • There will be alternating lane closures Hwy 174 in both directions between Montreal Road to Blair Road, overnight and daily from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
  • The right and left shoulder of Hwy 417 will be closed in both directions between Innes Road and the Cyrville Road overpass, overnight and daily from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
  • The northbound Innes Road on-ramp to Hwy 417 eastbound will be closed nightly.

Monday, Nov 4 to Tuesday, Nov 5

  • The left lane of Hwy 417 will be closed in both directions between Rochester Street and Parkdale Avenue daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Monday, Nov 4 to Friday, Nov 8

  • There will be alternating lane closures on the westbound Hwy 417 between Walkley Road and Innes Road, overnight and daily from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
  • The right lane of Hwy 417 will be closed in both directions between Nicholas Street and the 417/174 split daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • The northbound St. Laurent Boulevard on-ramp to Hwy 417 westbound will be closed nightly.
  • The northbound Vanier Parkway on-ramp to Hwy 417 westbound will be closed nightly.
  • The southbound Vanier Parkway on-ramp to Hwy 417 westbound will be closed nightly.
  • St. Laurent Boulevard will be reduced by one lane in each direction nightly between Lemieux Street and Tremblay Road.
  • The right shoulder of Hwy 174 westbound will be closed between Blair Road and Montreal Road.

Tuesday, Nov 5 to Wednesday, Nov 6

  • Hwy 417 will be closed in both directions in the vicinity of Vanier Parkway to Lees Avenue for 15 minute intervals between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. Ontario Provincial Police will be on hand to direct traffic; however, motorists are urged to consider alternate routes.

Wednesday, Nov 6 to Friday, Nov 8

  • There will be alternating closures of 2 lanes on Hwy 417 in both directions nightly between Nicholas Street and the 417/174 split.

Friday, Nov 8 to Saturday, Nov 9

  • The westbound Hwy 417 off-ramp to the Vanier Parkway will be closed nightly.

Signage will be in place to advise drivers of these traffic and road changes. Motorists are also reminded to respect the reduced speed limits and use caution when travelling through construction zones. Many of these construction elements are weather dependant and may be implemented later than the dates given.

This work is being done as part of the Highway 417 expansion project, which began in May, and will add an additional lane in each direction between Nicholas Street and the Split. The additional lane will be used for bus rapid transit during the 2015 to 2018 phase of the Confederation Line construction.

With all of the construction-related activities underway, residents are encouraged to be flexible with commuting times, stagger work hours or use other alternative means for travel. The public is asked to consider options such as transit, walking, cycling or carpooling.
