Betty Hill practised rural politics the old-fashioned way, roving her territory in western Ottawa talking to everyone she could, attending church every Sunday, and always speaking her mind no matter who didn’t like it. “It was that community thing,” remembers her daughter, Patti Fee. “We did a lot of the door-knocking for her campaigns when I was old enough. We went to the suppers and the tractor-pulls. We had all kinds of things going on in our backyard.”
