Ottawa –Starting on Saturday, November 9, Colonel By Drive will be closed in the vicinity of the Hartwells Locks and Carleton University due to construction activity being undertaken by the National Capital Commission (NCC). Motorists and cyclists are asked to use Prince of Wales Drive and Queen Elizabeth Driveway as alternative routes.

November 9, 2013 — Traffic lanes will be closed in both directions, from Hog’s Back Road to Bronson Avenue, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

November 11 to 13, 2013 — Traffic lanes will be closed in both directions, from Hog’s Back Road to Bronson Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Following these closures, work will continue until the end of November 2013, Monday to Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting. The traffic lanes on Colonel By Drive, near Hartwells Locks, will be closed alternately over a distance of 150 metres. Flag persons and directional signage will be on-site to direct traffic in the open lane of Colonel By Drive.

Motorists are reminded to respect the reduced speed limits and use caution when travelling through construction zones.

With all of the construction-related activities underway, residents are encouraged to be flexible with commuting times, stagger work hours or use other alternative means for travel. The public is asked to consider options such as transit, walking, cycling or carpooling.

The City of Ottawa has tools on ottawa.ca to help motorists and transit users plan their routes and manage their commute including:

Travel Planner at octranspo.com – transit users can chart and plan routes

City of Ottawa Traffic Report – outlining citywide road closures, traffic restrictions and detours

Interactive traffic map – showing construction areas and live traffic cams throughout the city

Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) cameras along Highway 417

Cycling maps and information – detailing bicycle pathways and lanes throughout the city
