‘Germ Guy’ follows his nose back to Ottawa

OTTAWA — Jason Tetro can tell quite a bit about people by smelling them. The Ottawa-raised microbiologist, better known as The Germ Guy, can pick up the scent of volatile organic compounds on a person’s breath, in their hair — or elsewhere, if he gets close enough. With his knowledge of the bacteria that live in and on people, and the chemicals they release when their relationship with a host human is off in some way, he has learned to literally smell fear, not to mention a gastric ailment.
