Ottawa – OC Transpo is pleased to announce that free transit service will again be available to residents on New Year’s Eve after 8 p.m. This city-wide campaign is provided through a partnership between OC Transpo, and the City’s Safer Roads Ottawa program, CAA Ontario East and North, and MADD-Ottawa.

“Ottawa residents can start making plans to ring in the New Year safely and securely thanks to OC Transpo,” said Mayor Jim Watson. “There is a long list of ways to enjoy New Year’s Eve in Ottawa, but if you choose to have a drink, the best option is to leave your car at home.”

Free service will be available on OC Transpo and Para Transpo service after 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. OC Transpo routes will operate a reduced weekday service on December 31, so customers should check the holiday schedules before heading out. The free service is being offered three hours earlier for the second year in a row.

“Free transit service on New Year’s Eve is a thank you to OC Transpo’s loyal customers, and to ensure revellers have a safe, reliable and worry-free travel option,” said Councillor Diane Deans. “If you drink, plan ahead, do it responsibly and leave the driving to OC Transpo.”

In addition to the free bus service, the City encourages Ottawa drivers to also consider the use of designated drivers, taxi services or Operation Red Nose to ensure safe passage home throughout the holidays.
