"Check Engine" light on: should I care ?

Hi, a small question: the Check Engine light on my dashboard is turned on, is this serious ? Can I just ignore it ?

Actually I did find my gas cap is loose when I fill up this morning. But even after I tighted the cap, the light remains.

the following information is taken from Nissan manual.

Apply the parking brake and trun the ignition key to "ON" without starting engine. teh following lights will come on and stay on until the engine is started.

Charge warning light
Brake warning light
Engine oil pressure warning light
Malfunction indicator lamp (CHECK ENGINE)

It is normal for my car when the ignition is "ON".

Please check your manual to make sure it.

如果不盖油箱盖子，灯一定亮。所以仔细检查油箱盖有无问题，尤其芯部。
如果盖是好的，断开电源负极。几分钟后重新接上，希望能从计算机中去掉错误代码。


What's the result? It works?
