Ottawa – Mayor Jim Watson will offer the surplus of corporate sponsorship funds from the Mayor’s 13th Annual Christmas Celebration, which totals $5,172, to the Ottawa Food Bank.

Because of the generosity of corporate sponsors, this annual city-wide event, held in support of the Ottawa Food Bank, is free of charge to all residents. In return, wherever possible, residents who attend the event are invited to make a donation to the Ottawa Food Bank. As a result, the 8,000 residents who attended this year’s event, donated 4,000 pounds of non-perishable items and $445.

“This traditional Christmas event was both a success in bringing holiday cheer and wishes to the many families who came to the event and those individuals in our community who depend on the Ottawa Food Bank,” said Mayor Jim Watson. “I am thrilled that we can provide the surplus of sponsorship funds to the Ottawa Food Bank, who really needs our community’s support and generosity this season.”

Donations to the Ottawa Food Bank are down 40 per cent compared to last year. Mayor Jim Watson encourages residents to give what they can to the Ottawa Food Bank to help those most vulnerable people in our community who depend on their services.
