Ralph Dowdall had just two means of transportation — a walker and, when weather permitted, a lawn tractor he would ride from his ramshackle home in the village of South Mountain to a nearby store to buy groceries. So when the 69-year-old was reported missing a week before Christmas, his neighbour across Main Street told police to look in his front yard.
