Veteran city councillors face serious challengers as nominations open

Several veteran city councillors can expect serious challenges for their seats almost as soon as nominations for this year’s election open Thursday. The first people to file their papers in an election year usually fall into two groups: the angry, who run mostly to make a point, and the coolly strategic, who want to present themselves as an incumbent’s main challenger from the earliest moment possible.
