A shirtless Viking, battleaxe in hand, burst from the hole in the ice and clambered ashore, heading for the warming tent. He was just one of a troupe of Vikings, replete with shields, weapons and horned helmets, who braved the icy cold Wednesday to take a quick New Year’s Day swim at Britannia Beach as part of the Sears Great Canadian Chill.
