Undercover police investigations into human-trafficking are infringing on basic human rights of prostitutes, says a local group that advocates for sex workers in Ottawa. Several women said they were intimidated when they received visits last week from police posing as Johns to gain access to their homes or places of work. The tactic is widely used in many police jurisdictions, but members of POWER (Prostitutes of Ottawa-Gatineau Work, Educate and Resist) say it infringes on people’s right to privacy.
