New hepatitis C drugs may be funded too late for Ottawa woman

OTTAWA — In 1975, when Brenda Peever was 21, she gave birth to an out-of-wedlock daughter. At the time, being an unwed mother still carried a stigma, so Brenda gave her baby up for adoption. What she didn’t know until 25 years later was that she was infected with hepatitis C by a tainted blood transfusion she was given after serious hemorrhaging during the delivery.
