The Ontario Superior Court has approved a multimillion-dollar settlement in which the Ontario government will compensate former residents “harmed” while living at two Ontario centres for people with developmental disabilities. The court endorsed an agreement reached in late December to settle a class-action lawsuit brought against the province on behalf of former residents at the Rideau Regional Centre in Smiths Falls and the Southwestern Regional Centre in Blenheim, west of London. In that settlement the government agreed to pay a total of $32.7 million to eligible former residents.
