Ottawa – Festival and Events Ontario has recognized the City of Ottawa with its inaugural award for “Best Festival City” for cities larger than 200,000 residents.
“Ottawa is blessed with a great number of annual festivals and events, big and small” said Mayor Watson. “Each one enhances the recreation, arts and cultural experience for our residents and visitors, while at the same time contributing to the growth and development of our economy. Our vibrant festival scene and special events contribute to Ottawa being one of the best cities in the world to live, work and invest.”
“This past September, Ottawa was recognized as one of only seven World Festival and Event Cities by the International Festivals and Events Association” said Councillor Mark Taylor, Chair of Community and Protective Services. “This new award shows that we are continuing on that path of success and have developed a reputation as an organized, effective and enthusiastic host city.”
The Best Festival City award recognizes Ottawa for its community leadership and ongoing efforts to provide a positive local environment that encourages the success and growth of festivals and cultural and sporting events. These activities are coordinated by Event Central, the City’s one-stop shop for organizers of events in the nation's capital. Event Central includes SEAT, the Special Events Advisory Team, which helps planners ensure their events are successful, safe, and contribute positively to the city and its residents.
