Ottawa – Beginning Monday, March 17, lane reductions will begin on King Edward Avenue at the approach and egress of the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge. These lane reductions are required for overhead formwork installation on the Sussex Drive Bridge.
Between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., one lane will be closed to traffic in both the eastbound and westbound direction on King Edward Avenue and on the MacDonald-Cartier Bridge. In an effort to expedite the construction activity while maintaining traffic, lane closures may occur in the non-peak direction. Between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. one lane in the westbound direction may be closed. Between 9:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. one lane in the eastbound direction may be closed.
These lane reductions will be in place for approximately two weeks.
Also beginning on March 17, there will be lane reductions at the intersection of St. Patrick Street and Sussex Drive. A minimum of one lane will be maintained in each direction at all times. These lane reductions will be in place for approximately five weeks.
Commuters may experience delays in this corridor and are reminded that reduced speed limits are in effect within the construction zone.
This work is the continuation of the Sussex Drive Reconstruction Project. This $36 million renewal project will see new water and sewer infrastructure, improved pedestrian, cycling and transit facilities, new lighting and signage. This work will continue until the end of 2014. Final paving and landscaping will be completed in spring/summer of 2015.
The work being done on Sussex Drive, also known as Confederation Boulevard, is an Ottawa on the Move project. Ottawa on the Move is about keeping our community and economy moving forward through strategic investments in a number of transportation, water and sewer projects, to build a better city and create jobs.
