Carleton student in China avoids jailtime and deportation

Jesse Konrad, a Carleton University student who’s in China facing jail time over an expired visa will not be imprisoned or deported, his sister Emma said Monday in an statement on Facebook. Konrad recently discovered he had been living in China illegally for 42 days while studying business at the Shanghai International Studies University.
