An Ottawa scientist who is a world leader in the study of cancer-fighting viruses, will focus his research on one of the deadliest and hardest to treat forms of the disease with the help of a $1.2-million grant from the Canadian Cancer Society. The cancer society Impact Grant awarded to Dr. John Bell, senior scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and a professor with the University of Ottawa’s faculty of medicine, will be used for research to tailor cancer-fighting viruses for pancreatic cancer. It was one of three grants for cancer research in Ottawa set to be announced Tuesday by the Canadian Cancer Society, totalling $1.7 million.
