The streets of Kabul are empty of foreigners, but despite the risk of violence, Afghans are openly talking politics and seem optimistic in the days leading up to Saturday’s election, says a University of Ottawa professor now in the Afghan capital. “The city seems full of hope and aspirations for the election despite the security concerns,” Nipa Banerjee said Monday in a call from Kabul.
