Ottawa – Mayor Jim Watson and Bay Ward Councillor Mark Taylor, Chair of the City’s Community and Protective Services Committee, attended Volunteer Ottawa's Annual Volunteer Rendezvous today at City Hall to celebrate and thank participants for the important work volunteers do in our community.

Mayor Watson proclaimed April 6 to 12 as National Volunteer Week in Ottawa and encouraged all citizens to celebrate, recognize and thank volunteers. He presented the official proclamation to Dobrila Rancic-Moogk, Vice Chair of Volunteer Ottawa.

“The work of volunteers is meaningful and appreciated and I am pleased to have this opportunity to thank each and every one of them for their dedication and generosity,” said Mayor Watson. “I encourage more people to experience the fulfillment that results from volunteering and helping others in our community.”

The Volunteer Rendezvous at City Hall concluded a week of events and featured approximately 30 Volunteer Ottawa member organizations with information booths that featured volunteer opportunities.

“I want to thank all the participants in today’s event for inspiring us and for making our city a better place,” said Chair Taylor. “Volunteers strengthen our communities and today’s Rendezvous is an opportunity to share the important work they do while encouraging others to do the same.”

Through individual and collective acts of service, approximately 53 per cent of Ottawa residents are dedicated to their community, to changing lives and shaping communities through volunteering.
