A judge’s decision to give a “sweetheart deal” to an impoverished man who attacked a city bus driver is “ridiculous,” the head of Ottawa’s transit union said Thursday. Craig Watson said Ontario Court Justice David Paciocco’s decision to give Patrick Guitard a six-month jail sentence when Guitard’s own lawyer had been asking for 12 months illustrates the need for new sentencing guidelines when it comes to punishing people who assault bus drivers.
