Vehicle thief gets nine months in jail

A thief who stole vans and trucks that were then crushed for scrap was sentenced to nine months in jail Tuesday. Marcus Bernard was part of a ring that stole older-model vans and pickup trucks in order to sell them for what usually amounted to a few hundred dollars from a scrap metal dealer. Bernard pleaded guilty to stealing six vehicles over a two-month period in August and September 2012.
