Ottawa - The Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management has requested the City of Ottawa’s assistance with the emergency evacuation of approximately 2,000 residents from the James Bay First Nations community of Kashechewan, due to flooding.
Ottawa will be acting as a transportation hub for the evacuation. Three flights carrying approximately 90 residents per flight will arrive in Ottawa later this afternoon. The evacuees will then be transported to the City of Cornwall.
The City of Ottawa is positioned to assist and support this evacuation.
