GMAT is not the most important factor in MBA application.
My friend applied this year for the admission to York and Mcgill. She made GMAT twice with only 580 and 600 in 3 months. But her tofel is 270(writing 5.5). And she has over 6.5 years marketing work experience in China.
Finally she are admitted by these two schools and she accepted McGill.

As we concluded, maybe the reference from a marketing manager in 3M US helps more.

She told me, don't pay most energy on GMAT. The essays required by these schools are very important. If possible, put more attention on this and try to ask some native speakers to help polish them. That's really helpful.

Just F.Y.I.

Yes, you are right. The essay is the most important part!
It will be read by the committee carefully. The ideas in the
essay such as your purpose of learning, the reson to choose
their school and your future career plan are of great importance!
Whether or not you will be successful as a professional manager
depends mostly on your ideas not on your academic ability. The
GMAT is just a criteria they use to eliminate the candidates.
A good GMAT score does not ganrantee the admission.
