A proposed development in Hintonburg that would include a 17-storey residential tower got the green light on Tuesday from the city’s planning committee.

The proposal for the property at Stirling Avenue and Scott Street, the former site of the Odawa Native Friendship Centre, requires a zoning bylaw amendment to go ahead. It calls for a 17-storey residential tower and four townhouses, and for turning a former school into lofts.

The original proposal featured a 19-storey highrise, but developer Morley Hoppner Group cut two storeys. City staff recommended approving the project because it fits within the new Scott Street Community Design Plan and the area’s secondary plan.

Council must still approve the zoning change.
