Yet another mixup at a Barrhaven Via Rail crossing had Ottawa atwitter Wednesday evening.

Late in the evening an Ottawa resident tweeted the gates failed to drop for an approaching train at the Fallowfield Rd. crossing. According to the tweet a train was forced to stop metres away from the level crossing.

Luckily, Via crew members were on site with stop signs, reported the tweeter.

Mayor Jim Watson and Coun. Jan Harder both tweeted at the rail company asking for an explanation.

Via tweeted saying the mishap occurred because the train was moving too slowly through the automatic warning device zone.

Former chief operating officer John Margison is reportedly out of retirement to study the issues surrounding automated crossings.
