在渥太华 - 加蒂诺地区居住的人中,四个人中就有一个人是政府工。如果按4口一家平均算的话,渥太华 - 加蒂诺地区几乎每个家庭都有政府工,而且可能是家里经济的顶梁柱。
QUOTE:
"I'm about to start my career and I'm on the fence between the public and private sectors. I've worked in both.
The article is right in mentioning that the pay and benefits offered by the public service do attract very bright and competent workers. When these 'upsides' are taken away, there's little incentive to consider a career in the public sector. The federal public service does some incredibly important things, and despite what the generalizations may suggest, we need competent workers to do them. Attracting talent is necessary for fulfilling the government tasks that help us all and (quite literally) make this nation run."
How a way of life is ending for Ottawa's public servants

QUOTE:
"SIDE NOTE. Is the graph that show median income by region for everyone or just public servants? If it for everyone, I ask, why a city like Ottawa considered a city with not much fun while we earn more then the "funner" cities (VAN,MTL,TOR)? We should have more disposable income for funner activities no? Just a small anecdote I wanted to bring up."
QUOTE:
"It is definitely the median of all residents...if you look at the last graphic, it shows that Ottawa is not a city of extremes of wealth. This is why the other cities would have more exotic/unique venues/experiences since there are more super-rich able to make use of these (while Ottawa has a much smaller collection of these types of people).
Anyways, I still maintain that Ottawa is plenty fun for normal people with normal lives. We have far better restaurants and more things to do than we had back in the 60s-80s when I suspect Ottawa developed this reputation by the influx of people joining the, then, growing public service."
